they invaded your home.On 16 May 2007, The Anti-Smacking bill was passed into law. Sue Bradford (Green MP) had introduced the bill, and it was the Green's good friend Labour that ensured that it was successful. National voted for the bill at its final reading upon an agreement that inconsequential cases would not be prosecuted. This made a terrible law slightly better. At the time that the law came into action, an average taken of 14 seperate polls across New Zealand showed that 83% of New Zealanders were strongly opposed to the law. One month after the law was passed, another poll was done by an independent research company, this time on 1,000 people throughout New Zealand. This poll showed that 78% of New Zealanders planned to ignore the tyrannical new law. Good parents know the difference between a smack and child abuse.
Click here: a survey in which 12,000 people responded indicates that 83% of Kiwis want the Anti-Smacking law overturned. 390,000 signatures have been collected on a petition calling for a referendum on the question "Should a smack as a part of good parental correction be a criminal offense in New Zealand?". The referendum will take place in 2009. |
